There are several ingredients you can use to affect acne where it gets its start –in the pores:
- Alpha hydroxy acids (for example, glycolic and mandelic acid);
- Beta hydroxy acids (salicylic acid);
- Vitamin A acids (retinyl propionate, retinol, and retinoids); and
- Benzoyl peroxide, which not only kills bacteria with an infusion of oxygen within the pores, but actually peels in the pore.
For inflammed acne, use mandelic or salicylic along with benzoyl peroxide. For non-inflamed acne, use mandelic or glycolic acid along with benzoyl peroxide, and then introduce an exfoliating serium.
